WAT LogoWestern Arts Theatre Inc. is an amateur theatre company in Melbourne’s western suburbs. Our purpose: to provide high quality access to arts and theatre with a focus on social cohesion, community development and equal opportunity.

Since our first successful year in 2015 having produced a fun-filled cabaret evening entitled The Good, Bad and Ugly of Musical Theatre. and our first full scale production: RENT by Jonathan Larson in the Union House Theatre at The University of Melbourne we have enjoyed another successful 2016.  This saw the presentation of an anti-love cabaret experience entitled Love Me Not and then we brought the younger community to the stage with their production of Annie later in the year.

2017 was our biggest year so far with the cabaret Never, highlighting the best of stage performers in the west and then the beautifully directed XYZ, which presented some of the west’s best younger performers with new directors.  Our major production Into the Woods at the Clocktower was an outstanding success with two Guild nominations and one commendation.

Our busiest year to date has been 2018 where we have ambitiously taken on four productions. In January we partnered with Beyond Blue to present Downstage Centre and raised funds and awareness for bettering men’s mental health. During the April school holidays we presented Peter Pan Jr; our first all junior production and July saw the presentation of our community focused, in-house written cabaret On My Way. We are currently in rehearsals for our production of Shrek the Musical which will be performed at the Clocktower Centre, Moonee Ponds. Book your tickets to this amazing show here.

We are always looking for theatrical people of all kinds: singers, actors, stage managers, dancers, directors, set builders, choreographers, stage hands, spot light operators, sound and lighting technicians, audience members, front of house staff and costume makers. And probably a few other kinds, too.
